Stop the Bleed

Stop the Bleed is a Department of Defense certified program that was created following the Sandy Hook school shooting incident in 2012. Government officials met and developed a curriculum that can bring the knowledge of bleeding control to the public and educate on the importance of early intervention during a life-threatening bleeding emergency. The program covers topics such as personal and scene safety, identifying sources of life-threatening bleeding, and what techniques can be used to control life threatening bleeding before professional help arrives. The techniques covered in the program include compression (holding direct pressure), wound packing, and tourniquet application. Similar to hands-only CPR, bringing this knowledge to the public has been proven to be useful in reducing the number of deaths due to excessive blood loss in the trauma world. Stop the bleed is an hour-long program and all are welcome to participate; our regions goal is to spread this education as far and wide as possible.
